Oh great, another drum kit promising an ‘easy setup’. Because we’ve never heard that one before, right? But seriously, if it’s as straightforward as they claim, might consider ditching my ancient setup. Assuming it doesn’t decide to fall apart after two sessions. Here’s hoping, eh?

This was incredibly insightful, thank you for the breakdown! I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect starter drum kit for my son, and affordability without sacrificing quality is key for us. The Yamaha DTX522K seems to strike a nice balance between those factors. I appreciate the mention of other Yamaha models as well, gives us a bit to think about. I was also pleasantly surprised by the setup part. Easy assembly is definitely a plus in my book. Would you say this model is durable enough for enthusiastic beginners?

Not fully convinced yet. The feel of hitting an acoustic skin is just unmatched. Would be keen to see if this kit can come close.

You’ll enjoy it, but remember electronic kits can feel a bit different from acoustics. It’s about adjusting. I use one in my studio for certain tracks.

Hey, just saw the part about the DTX522K setup being easy peasy. I’m kinda new to the whole digital drum scene, so wondering how true that is? Got limited space in my apartment and not much patience for complicated setups. Also, would love to know how it holds up against real drums in terms of feel and response. Cheers, TerryG92.

Ted's List is a project run by The Emery Foundation - a Micro-Trust of GivingWorks, registered charity number 107877.

The idea of Ted's List was setup to raise funds for musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the Get Musicians Working project.

Our 'Champions' are the musicians we think showcase their instrument to the wider public, and make a substantial difference to the popularity of their instrument family. Non of the 'Champions' are remitted in any way by Ted's List, and our list is completely impartial. If you have a favourite musician you would like to nominate to be added to our list of 'Champions', then please do contact us.
