Don’t worry. We’ve got your back.

So, let’s jam and find your perfect guitar without breaking the bank!

Table of Contents

What to Expect in Cheap Acoustic-Electric Guitars?

Build Quality and Materials

One area where you might notice a difference between cheap and expensive acoustic-electric guitars is the build quality and materials used. Cheaper guitars may use lower-quality wood or pay less attention to detail in construction.

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t find a well-made, best budget acoustic electric guitar. Look for guitars with solid tops rather than laminates, and pay attention to the overall fit and finish of the instrument.

Sound Quality

Of course, sound quality is one of the most important factors in any guitar. While you might not get the same tonal complexity and nuance as you would from a high-end model, plenty of cheap acoustic-electric guitars still sound great.

Look for well-balanced guitars across the frequency range and with a clear, defined sound. Remember that the type of wood used for the top will greatly impact the guitar’s overall sound.

Hardware and Electronics

Another area where you might notice a difference between cheap and expensive acoustic-electric guitars is in the hardware and electronics. Cheaper guitars may have lower-quality tuners, bridges, and other hardware that can impact the playability and sound of the instrument.

Additionally, the electronics in a cheaper or affordable acoustic-electric guitar may not be as advanced or refined as those in a higher-end model. Look for guitars with solid hardware and reliable electronics to ensure you get the best possible playing experience.

Factors to Consider
When Choosing a Cheap Acoustic Electric Guitar

Budget

First and foremost, you need to decide how much you are willing to spend. While many affordable budget acoustic electric guitars exist, you still want to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. Determine your budget and stick to it.

Body Shape and Size

Your guitar’s body shape and size can greatly affect the sound it produces. Consider what type of music you will play and choose a body shape that complements it. Additionally, make sure the guitar size is comfortable for you to play.

Tonewoods

The type of wood used in your guitar’s construction can also impact its sound. Some popular tonewoods include spruce, mahogany, and rosewood. Research the tonewoods used in the guitars you’re considering and choose one that fits your desired sound.

Electronics and Controls

If you’re looking for an acoustic-electric guitar, you will want to consider the electronics and controls available. Look for a guitar with a built-in pickup and preamp and controls for volume and tone. This will allow you to plug in and play through an amplifier or PA system.

Brand Reputation

Finally, consider the reputation of the brand you are considering. While there are many affordable options, you want to purchase a guitar from a reputable company that produces quality instruments.

Tips for Buying Guitars Without Compromising Essential Quality
and Feature

Buying a guitar can be daunting, especially if you’re new to music. You may be tempted to go for the cheapest option, but that can often lead to disappointment when you realize that the guitar lacks essential features or is of poor quality.

Here are some tips to help you buy a guitar without compromising on essential quality and features:

Prioritize quality over aesthetics or brand name

If you want to pick out the perfect guitar, you’ve got to know your priorities. Sure, a groovy-looking instrument might catch your eye but don’t forget that quality is king.

Don’t get fooled by the brand names either – just because it’s pricey doesn’t mean it’s top-notch. Instead, research the essential qualities you need in a guitar, like ease of use, tone, and functionality.

Look for guitars with higher-end specifications and a wide range of features that fit your budget. Don’t forget to try before you buy, either – you never know what kind of gem you’ll discover by testing different models. Lastly, ensure that your chosen guitar can accommodate your amplification needs without compromising sound quality.

Look for sales or promotions to get a better deal.

If you keep an eye out for sales and promotions, you might score a great deal on a quality instrument. When looking for discounts, make sure you aren’t compromising on essential features or quality.

You want a good guitar that feels comfortable to play, so don’t settle for less just because it’s on sale. With a little patience and savvy shopping, you can find the perfect guitar without emptying your wallet.

Research and compare prices from different retailers and brands.

Take some time to browse online and read reviews to understand what’s available and what others say about their experiences with specific models.

Don’t be afraid to visit music stores and try out different electro-acoustic guitars in person to get a feel for what you like and what suits your playing style.

Remember, many brands have “minimum advertised price” guidelines, so a reputable shop shouldn’t charge significantly more than you’ve seen online. And don’t forget to factor in additional costs for set-up, maintenance, or upgrades.

This stunning dreadnought-style acoustic guitar features a cedar top, mahogany back, and sides that deliver a mellow and sweet sound that will leave a lasting impression.

I’ve personally experienced the sparkling, immaculately sculpted amplification from the Takamine proprietary electronics and TP-4TD preamp, and it always leaves the audience wanting more-making it a standout among a sea of good electro-acoustic guitars.

This guitar may be relatively expensive compared to other electro-acoustic guitars, but its exceptional craftsmanship, superior tonewoods, and innovative electronics make it a worthwhile investment for musicians seeking high-quality sound and performance.

Plus, having a built-in tuner is really convenient because it allows me to stay in tune no matter where I play my music.

Taylor Academy 10e

This guitar has a great dynamic response, which you do not always find in guitars in this price range. It has a nice, soft feel that makes playing incredibly comfortable. The tone of it is just so rich and defined – I haven’t found anything quite like it in their class.

Like other Taylor guitars, this one is so well-made that it feels like an expensive instrument.

The Academy 10e is perfect for new players, but even experienced players will appreciate its high-quality feel and effortless playability. And if you’re worried about the price, don’t be – users have found this guitar to be a great value purchase.

Accessories for Your Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Capo

A capo is a small device that clamps onto a guitar’s neck and shortens the strings’ length. This means that putting the capo on a specific fret raises the guitar’s key and changes the pitch of the chords you play.

It’s a handy tool for guitarists who want to play in a different key without moving all their chord positions. All you have to do is place the capo on a fret and play your usual chord shapes, and the capo takes care of the rest.

Tuner

A guitar tuner is a device that helps you tune your guitar up to a specific pitch, so you can maintain a consistent, true sound every time you play your chords. Tuners can detect signals through sensors, microphones, or instrument cables, before amplifying and converting them to digital. This means your guitar technician can always keep your guitar ready to play.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, it’s important to keep your guitar in tune, especially since active play, changes in temperature and humidity, and long-term storage can all affect how it sounds.

Pickup

A guitar pickup is a pretty essential part of an electric guitar. It’s what makes the vibrations from your guitar strings and turns them into electrical signals that can be sent to an amplifier.

Typically, a pickup will be made up of a magnet and some copper wire wound around it. There are three main types of pickups: single coil, humbucker, and P90. Each type has its own unique sound and characteristics.

Hey Lewis , just went through your list of recommended guitars and while I agree with most of your selections, I kinda think you missed out on mentioning some models from Martin that also fit the bill for quality and affordability. I know Martin’s generally known for their higher-end guitars, but models like the DX1AE and LX1E are fantastic options for those wanting that Martin sound without completely emptying their wallets. Would be cool to know your thoughts or if there was a reason you left them out?

Lewis, I appreciated the depth of your article, especially the section on ‘What to Expect in Cheap Acoustic-Electric Guitars.’ As someone who performs regularly, I’m always on the hunt for a reliable backup guitar that won’t break the bank. Could you provide more details on how the sound quality of these guitars holds up in live performance settings? Additionally, how do the electronics in these models compare to their more expensive counterparts in terms of durability and sound fidelity?
