When I first stumbled upon the concept of a double violin case, my curiosity was instantly piqued.

I’m quite familiar with violin cases, but what does it mean when it’s double cases?

When I saw one, I immediately understood what it meant. It’s a fascinating accessory for violinists who must carry two instruments simultaneously!

Imagine walking into a rehearsal room, your hands full with just one case, yet you’re armed with not one but two violins, each ready to sing its own sweet melodies.

This efficient design not only keeps both of your treasured violins safe and sound, but it also streamlines your musical journey.

Violin In A Double Violin Case

But how do you know how to choose the right double violin case? There are numerous options, and all seem to be great!

Don’t worry!

My journey led me to a deeper appreciation for the clever design elements of double violin cases. Read on, and you’ll know!

As a violinist, I personally prefer the BAM 2005XLC Hightech Double Violin Case, Black Carbon Look, because of its premium protection and head-turning style!

This case collection is constructed to protect delicate instruments (such as a violin and even a viola!), featuring plush interiors and sturdy exteriors.

They balance the need for security with lightweight portability, ensuring I can move from gig to gig without skipping a beat.

Selecting the Right
Double Violin Case

Violinist Securing Violin Inside A Case

When shopping for a double violin case, it’s imperative to balance protection, style, and travel convenience with your specific needs as a musician.

Let’s explore what to consider to find your perfect case.

1

Assessing Your Needs

First, I always ask myself, “What’s my daily routine?”

Is it hopping between gigs, teaching, or traveling? Do I need additional compartments for violin sheet music, rosin, shoulder rest, and other accessories?

The answer guides my choice greatly! Sizable storage is a must for me.

2

Considering Double Cases Dimension for Your Instruments

Violins are like snowflakes—each has its own set of dimensions.

I note my violins’ total length, body length, upper and lower bout. Then, I check these against the interior dimensions of potential cases to ensure a snug and secure fit.

3

Investing in Quality for Longevity

I’ve learned it’s better to splurge on a high-quality case now than pay for repairs later.

Protection is key, as it saves my instruments from the ravages of travel and time. I look for cases with strong exterior shells and plush, protective interiors, which promise to safeguard my violins for years.

4

Finding the Best Value

Price tags can be daunting, but they often reflect the quality and features of the case.

I weigh the costs against the benefits, considering factors like light, durability, security, and the peace of mind protection offers. It’s about balancing affordability and the level of protection I require.

5

Customization Options

The cherry on top? Customizing my case!

Whether it’s a hygrometer, two small accessory compartments, or a space for my lucky charm, those personal touches make the case uniquely mine.

Customization options can vary, so I always check what’s available in stock or if there’s room for personalization to suit my style and needs.

Double Violin Case
Essential Points to Keep in Mind!

Violin Inside A Vintage Leather Violin Case

As a recap, here are the essential things to keep in mind:

  • Materials and Durability: Always look for a lightweight and tough case. My current favorite is the BAM 2005XLC Hightech Double Violin Case. It’s survived quite a few bumps!

  • Interior Features: I make sure that there are spaces for at least two bows and accessory pockets that can hold rosin, strings, and other knick-knacks in place.

  • Security and Locking Mechanisms: Always check that the zippers are sturdy. Sometimes, they come with combination locks, which is a relief, especially when I’m on the move.

  • Portability: Good features are backpack straps, which are ideal for hands-free carrying, and side handles, which are handy when I need to grab my case quickly.

  • Dimensions: I’ve learned to check the dimensions carefully. Not all cases fit every violin size, so measuring my instruments beforehand is crucial.

A double violin case is my go-to when holding two violins simultaneously. It’s incredibly efficient, saving me the hassle of juggling multiple cases!

Wait! Don’t go just yet…

Now that you know about double cases, it would be a good idea to look for an instrument that complements the case. If you want to learn how to buy the best quality violin, read this article!

My name is Mark and I’ve been playing the viola since I was ten years old. I studied at the Royal College of Music in London for four years. Since then, I’ve played with Rod Stewart at the Brits, played with the likes of Katherine Jenkins and travelled all over the world, doing what I love! In my spare time, I love learning languages. I’ve been learning German for several years now and speak some Czech, too. I also enjoy studying maps, as well as playing and watching football.

hey does it matter if the case is heavy? i got a cheap one and its super heavy, is that bad?

Hey RJ233, a lighter case makes it much easier to carry around, especially if you’re travelling or walking a lot. Plus, it puts less strain on your back and shoulders. Maybe consider upgrading if it’s an issue?

While the BAM 2005XLC Hightech Double Violin Case is highly praised for its lightweight and protective features, one must not overlook the potential cons such as the price point and the fit for specific violin models. It’s essential to weigh both the pros and cons before making such an investment. Has anyone had a different experience or another case recommendation?

Really appreciated the segment on investing in quality for longevity, Mark Gibbs. It’s so important to protect our instruments, and a solid case is the first step. I’ve seen too many friends skimp only to regret it later.

Ted's List is a project run by The Emery Foundation - a Micro-Trust of GivingWorks, registered charity number 107877.

The idea of Ted's List was setup to raise funds for musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the Get Musicians Working project.

Our 'Champions' are the musicians we think showcase their instrument to the wider public, and make a substantial difference to the popularity of their instrument family. Non of the 'Champions' are remitted in any way by Ted's List, and our list is completely impartial. If you have a favourite musician you would like to nominate to be added to our list of 'Champions', then please do contact us.
