Accessories for acoustic piano
1. Castors
Piano castors are not essential keyboard accessories as they’re not directly related to your performance and practice. However, let’s assume you got your piano recently and have not found the perfect spot for your new instrument.
In that case, we recommend getting some decent castor cups. These prevents your piano or piano equipment from damaging your floor.

MADE FROM: Solid hardwood
SUITABLE FOR: Instruments and equipment
FEATURES: The underside of each cup is lined with a felt pad for floor protection as well as sound insulation and antiskid.

4. Piano Stool
Some keyboard accessories can improve the experience of playing an instrument, but others are utterly crucial. And a piano stool (sometimes called a piano bench) falls into the latter category!
Sitting properly and having the correct posture are crucial for every pianist. The seat has to be comfortable and at the right height for easy reaching the pedals and reading sheet music, and avoiding backache!
It doesn’t matter whether you need some digital keyboard or grand piano accessories to play – you have to take a comfortable playing position and still be able to focus on the music you play.
One of the models of piano stool we like is the Roland RPB-500RW Piano Bench. This stands out from its competitors with its combination of elegant design, sturdy construction, and comfortable seating, providing a premium and supportive experience for pianists of all levels.

Accessories for digital piano
Some digital piano accessories don’t apply if you have an upright or grand piano. For instance, it’s not possible to buy an acoustic instrument without a sustain pedal, but it’s absolutely possible to buy a digital piano or keyboard without a sustain pedal.
6. Keyboard stands
A keyboard stand is not the same as a music stand. The keyboard sits on the stand. If you have a console digital piano, then this isn’t needed of Couse – but if you have a keyboard, this’ll be important for you.
For a touring pianist, the keyboard stand has to be travel-friendly, meaning easily foldable, and not too heavy.
The keyboard stands can have an X, Z, or table frame; they can vary in dimensions and some have a second tier for another keyboard accessories. There are many variants, which is why we’ll look at two models.
The MINI X-FRAME KEYBOARD STAND BY GEAR4MUSIC is not designed to hold heavier, full-sized keyboards, so it may not be suitable for professional or heavy-duty use. FAQ's
The piano accessories you absolutely must have are a metronome and a bench. For digital pianos or keyboards, you may also need headphones, an amp, extra cables, a sustain pedal, a volume pedal, and other gadgets depending on your needs.
Keyboard accessories are gadgets and products that give you the ability to produce sound, play songs, play compositions, maintain the keyboard, etc. These products include cases, metronomes, amps, headphones, pedals, stands, frames, and many others. And remember, if your pedals doesn’t work straight away, flick the polarity switch!
You should ask the pianist which sheet music they like and purchase it. Otherwise, surprise them with a massive, wrapped up digital piano!
For a beginner, you can buy a metronome, one of the most essential accessories. This is especially helpful if their playing style is more rock/pop based where they need to play in rhythm. Likewise, if it’s a digital piano, then make sure you grab a pair of great headphones.
Really like how you broke down accessories for both acoustic and digital pianos, Robert Emery. Helps a ton in making informed choices based on the type of piano one uses.
Cheers to that!
Absolutely love the idea of a piano bench. Makes it so much easier for my little ones to reach the keys and for me to join them for a duet. It’s all about making music accessible.
I noticed you listed music stand light twice. Is there a specific reason for this repetition, or was it an oversight? Great article otherwise, very detailed.
Is it okay to go for cheaper keyboard stands or will they not hold up? I’m on a student budget but want to make sure my setup is safe.
Such a comprehensive list! Every pianist, whether on acoustic or digital, could benefit from this. Really shows you don’t need the most expensive piano to enhance your playing; just the right accessories.
metronome is like the drummer of the piano world haha. good to see it being recommended!
Got to the part about castors and couldn’t help but wheel my piano around the house for fun. Probably should get those to stop the impromptu tours.
The emphasis on having both a piano stool and bench depending on preference and comfort highlights an often-overlooked aspect of playing comfort. Very insightful article.
Loved your list, Robert Emery! The music stand light is such an underrated tool, especially for those of us who occasionally write music too.
While speakers are essential for digital pianos to get a good sound quality, don’t forget the importance of having a good set of headphones for private practice.
Any recommendations on a brand or model for headphones that won’t break the bank but deliver good quality sound?
