Accessories for acoustic piano

1. Castors

Piano castors are not essential keyboard accessories as they’re not directly related to your performance and practice. However, let’s assume you got your piano recently and have not found the perfect spot for your new instrument.

In that case, we recommend getting some decent castor cups. These prevents your piano or piano equipment from damaging your floor.

4. Piano Stool

Some keyboard accessories can improve the experience of playing an instrument, but others are utterly crucial. And a piano stool (sometimes called a piano bench) falls into the latter category!

Sitting properly and having the correct posture are crucial for every pianist. The seat has to be comfortable and at the right height for easy reaching the pedals and reading sheet music, and avoiding backache!

It doesn’t matter whether you need some digital keyboard or grand piano accessories to play – you have to take a comfortable playing position and still be able to focus on the music you play.

One of the models of piano stool we like is the Roland RPB-500RW Piano Bench. This stands out from its competitors with its combination of elegant design, sturdy construction, and comfortable seating, providing a premium and supportive experience for pianists of all levels.

Accessories for digital piano

Some digital piano accessories don’t apply if you have an upright or grand piano. For instance, it’s not possible to buy an acoustic instrument without a sustain pedal, but it’s absolutely possible to buy a digital piano or keyboard without a sustain pedal.

6. Keyboard stands

A keyboard stand is not the same as a music stand. The keyboard sits on the stand. If you have a console digital piano, then this isn’t needed of Couse – but if you have a keyboard, this’ll be important for you.

For a touring pianist, the keyboard stand has to be travel-friendly, meaning easily foldable, and not too heavy.

The keyboard stands can have an X, Z, or table frame; they can vary in dimensions and some have a second tier for another keyboard accessories. There are many variants, which is why we’ll look at two models.

The MINI X-FRAME KEYBOARD STAND BY GEAR4MUSIC is not designed to hold heavier, full-sized keyboards, so it may not be suitable for professional or heavy-duty use. But is still worth considering for its compact and lightweight design, making it ideal for smaller keyboards, portable setups, and musicians who require a space-saving and easily transportable stand for their instruments.

8. Keyboard dust covers

Your digital piano needs a suitable cover so you can protect it against dust and dirt. This is one of the best digital piano accessories you can get, as lots of dust over time can stop the electrical connections in the instrument working well. Even if you’re a musician who uses the piano daily, this is one of the best pianist accessories to keep your keyboard nice and clean.

We recommend Gator GKC-1648 88 Key Keyboard Cover for players with an 88-key instrument.

9. Headphones

The most important factor to consider when purchasing headphones is the sound quality they produce and comfort.

The cost of the headphones varies based on the brand. This is one area we wouldn’t recommend budget brands – as with many piano gadgets, you really do get what you pay for.

So if you’re looking to play your digital piano or keyboard ‘silently’, then take a look at these Shure SRH840A Professional Headphones and their features.

What piano should I buy?

The first and most important bit of advice is to research thoroughly before buying a piano. Don’t rush, and don’t let the appearance trick you.

Also, you should always consult with professionals and, if you can, bring a pianist with you when purchasing the piano (if you’re a complete beginner).

You can also take a look at our articles to find the best acoustic pianos for beginners, the 24 best weighted digital pianos, and the best piano brands.

Hopefully you’ll find the right piano for you from the massive choice we give. And of course, if you ever need assistance making the decision, reach out to us on our Contact Us page, and we will always do our best to help guide you through the wonderful world of pianos.

14 ACCESSORIES FOR PIANO
Summary

As we wrap up our journey through the world of piano accessories, it’s clear that these little additions can make a big difference. Each accessory contributes, from adjustable benches to keep you comfy to metronomes to help you stay on beat.

Let’s break it down one last time:

  • Benches: Comfort is key for long practice sessions.
  • Metronomes: Essential for keeping time.
  • Piano Lamps: Illuminate your music without straining your eyes.
  • Cleaning Kits: Keep your piano in top shape.
  • Storage Benches: Perfect for storing music books and more.

Each of these piano accessories brings unique benefits to your practice routine, making playing more enjoyable and efficient. Consider starting with a metronome and a good bench if you’re a beginner. Trust me, your back and your music will thank you.

For more experienced players, adding a piano lamp or a high-quality pedal can take your playing to the next level. Remember, the right accessories don’t just enhance your playing—they also help protect your instrument.

Investing in quality accessories is a step towards mastering your craft and enjoying every moment at the piano.

Happy playing!

FAQ's

What accessories do you need for piano?

The piano accessories you absolutely must have are a metronome and a bench. For digital pianos or keyboards, you may also need headphones, an amp, extra cables, a sustain pedal, a volume pedal, and other gadgets depending on your needs.

What are Keyboard Accessories?

Keyboard accessories are gadgets and products that give you the ability to produce sound, play songs, play compositions, maintain the keyboard, etc. These products include cases, metronomes, amps, headphones, pedals, stands, frames, and many others. And remember, if your pedals doesn’t work straight away, flick the polarity switch!

What do you buy a pianist for Christmas?

You should ask the pianist which sheet music they like and purchase it. Otherwise, surprise them with a massive, wrapped up digital piano!

What should I buy for a beginner piano?

For a beginner, you can buy a metronome, one of the most essential accessories. This is especially helpful if their playing style is more rock/pop based where they need to play in rhythm. Likewise, if it’s a digital piano, then make sure you grab a pair of great headphones.

Absolutely love the idea of a piano bench. Makes it so much easier for my little ones to reach the keys and for me to join them for a duet. It’s all about making music accessible.
