Tama Starclassic Maple

For decades, the Tama Starclassic Maple kit has been a beloved choice among professional drummers–and for a good reason. I have personally played the Tama Starclassic Maple kit and was blown away by its amazing projection power and resonance.

Its thin cross-laminated shells offer amazing projection power and resonance, while die-cast hoops and Tama’s quick-lock tom bracket make it easy to set up and play.

This level of tonal quality and depth sets professional drum sets apart from their beginner counterparts, providing a more nuanced and expressive sound that truly enhances the playing experience.

One drawback is that professional drum sets can be more expensive than beginner kits, but the investment is worth it for serious musicians. The superior tonal quality and enhanced playing experience make it a worthwhile purchase for those looking to elevate their drumming to a professional level.

Why should you get a professional drum set?

Are you still plugging away on that beginner kit, dreaming of the day you can upgrade your dream kit to a professional drum set? Let me tell you why you should make that dream a reality!

First of all, think about the sound. A professional drum set is made with premium tonewoods and hardware, producing pure, high-quality tones that even the best beginner kits can’t match. When I was playing on a professional drum set, I noticed the rich and resonant sound that elevated my performance to a whole new level.

Whether playing in the studio or on stage, a pro kit will make you sound like a true drum set professional.

But it’s not just about the sound. A pro drum kit is also built with incredible attention to detail. Every aspect of a pro kit is designed for superior performance, from the perfectly cut bearing edges to the expertly applied finishes. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a gorgeous lacquer coat?

Why Should You Get A Professional Drum Set

Of course, there’s also the practical aspect. A professional drum set is built to last, meaning you won’t have to replace it anytime soon. Plus, you’ll have access to professional-grade features like quick-lock tom brackets and MAG snare drum throw-offs that can really elevate your playing.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. But won’t a pro drum set be too expensive?” Sure, they can be pricier than beginner or intermediate kits, but remember, you get what you pay for. And with options which offer premium sound and build quality at a more affordable price point, there’s bound to be a pro kit that fits your budget.

So, if you’re serious about taking your playing to the next level, it’s time to start thinking about a professional drum set. With superior sound quality, incredible attention to detail, and long-lasting durability, it’s an investment in your music career that you won’t regret. Who doesn’t want to look and sound like a true rockstar?

Who needs to upgrade to a professional drum set?

Are you tired of your old, worn-out drum kit that can barely keep up with your playing skills? Do you dream of taking your music career to the next level? Then it’s time for you to invest in a professional drum set!

Who Needs To Upgrade To A Professional Drum Set

Sure, you might think that your beginner or intermediate kit will suffice, but you won’t look back once you experience the difference a high-quality drum set can make.

Professional drum sets offer superior sound quality, durability, and versatility. Whether you’re a gigging musician or a recording artist, a professional kit will help you achieve your desired sound and elevate your performance.

So, whether you’re a seasoned drummer or an aspiring musician, a professional sounding drum set really is a must-have for anyone serious about their craft. It’s time to ditch the mediocre kit and upgrade to a drum set that will take your music to new heights. Trust me, your ears (and your audience) will thank you.

Features to
Consider When Buying a
Professional Drum Set

Are you ready to upgrade your drum kit and take your skills to the next level? Investing in a professional drum set is a big decision, so here are some features to consider before making your purchase:

Shell material

The shell material of a drum set can significantly impact the overall sound and tone of the instrument. Different shell materials, such as maple, birch, acrylic, or metal, can produce distinct sound characteristics that may be more suitable for certain music styles or playing techniques.

Therefore, considering the shell material is essential when buying a professional drum set to ensure that the instrument meets your sound preferences and performance needs.

Hoops

The hoops of a drum set can affect the instrument’s tuning stability, sustain, and projection. Different hoop materials, such as wood, metal, or plastic, can produce varying levels of resonance and attack. Die-cast hoops offer to tune stability and a sharper attack, while triple-flanged hoops offer a more open and resonant sound.

Tom mounts

A drum set’s mounts can impact the instrument’s overall sound quality, sustain, and resonance. Different mount types, such as suspension or direct-to-shell mounts, can affect how the drum shells vibrate and interact with each other. Look for easy-to-use and sturdy tom mounts, such as Tama’s quick-lock tom brackets.

Bass drum pedal

The double bass drums or drum pedal is a crucial component of a drum set that can affect the instrument’s overall feel, speed, and power. Different pedal designs, such as chain-drive or direct-drive, can produce varying levels of responsiveness and control. Consider a double bass kick drum pedal if you play heavier styles.

Shell pack vs complete set

When buying a professional drum set, it’s important to consider whether to purchase just a shell pack, or a complete set. A shell pack includes only the drums and hardware, while a complete set includes cymbals and other accessories.

Choosing between the two depends on personal preferences, budget, and whether you already own cymbals and hardware, or prefer to choose them separately.

Features To Consider When Buying A Professional Drum Set

Number of pieces

The number of pieces in a full acoustic drum set can affect the instrument’s versatility, portability, and complexity. Different music styles and playing techniques may require different acoustic drum sets and configurations. Start with a simple 4 or 5-piece kit and expand later, depending on your playing style and needs.

Shell sizes

Different shell sizes, including the diameter of the bass drum and depth of the toms, can impact the sound quality, portability, and versatility of a drum set. These shell size variations can produce different resonance, projection, and sustain levels.

Larger shells are ideal for heavier styles, and smaller shells for lighter playing. Make sure to consider the dimensions of each drum in the electronic drum set.

Budget

Considering your budget is important when buying a professional drum set, as prices vary widely depending on the brand, materials, and features. Setting a budget can help narrow down options and prevent overspending. It’s important to balance quality and affordability to ensure you get the best value for your money.

A professional drum set price is between £/$600 to £/$1000. Avoid anything cheaper, as it may be more like a toy than a real instrument.

5 Accessories
and add-ons for your professional drum set

What better way to take your drumming skills to the next level than with cool accessories and add-ons? Here are some of the best drum kit accessories to consider when upgrading to a professional drum set, guaranteed to make you the envy of your bandmates!

Cymbal Stands

A professional drummer deserves professional-grade cymbal stands. Are you tired of your cymbals falling off or wobbling during a gig? Say hello to the sturdy and reliable double-braced cymbal stands. These stands are made for heavy cymbals and won’t budge an inch, giving you the confidence to hit those cymbals with all your might.

Tips for Setting Up
and Maintaining Your Professional Drum Set

1. Start with a solid foundation

When setting up your drum set, make sure the legs on your bass drum are adjusted equally to avoid wobbling. Use spurs on the bass drum legs to keep it from sliding around on carpeted surfaces.

2. Adjust the bass drum pedal

The bass drum pedal is where the magic happens. Ensure it strikes the bass drum head in the centre and bounces back easily. If your pedal feels too tight or loose, adjust the tension using the knob or screw available.

3. Get your throne in position

The throne is where you hold all the power, so adjust it carefully. Find a throne that allows you to balance and move around the kit easily. A good rule of thumb is to have your thighs parallel to the ground.

4. Place the snare drum perfectly

The height and angle of your snare drum is important, so make sure it’s positioned to allow you to hit rimshots and ghost notes comfortably. If needed, angle it slightly toward you for optimal playing.

5. Arrange your toms strategically

Adjusting your floor toms can make all the difference in sound quality. Your floor tom should sit approximately the same height as your snare drum, while your mounted tom or toms can be positioned slightly toward you. If hitting your floor tom is uncomfortable, consider angling it slightly toward you.

6. Keep your cymbals in check

Cymbals are the cherry on top of your drum set, so keeping them in good condition is essential. Use felt or rubber pads between cymbals to prevent them from cracking, and avoid over-tightening wing nuts.

7. Be mindful of maintenance

Taking care of your drum set is crucial for maintaining its longevity. Clean your drums and cymbals regularly to prevent buildup, store them in a dry place, and replace worn-out heads and cymbals promptly.

8. Consider soundproofing options

Soundproofing your practice space can make all the difference if you live in an apartment or close-quarters environment. Invest in sound-absorbing materials like acoustic foam or heavy curtains to reduce noise pollution.

9. Play with care

Remember, your drum set is a delicate instrument that requires thoughtful playing. Avoid hitting your drums and cymbals too hard, as this can cause damage over time. Rather than brute force, focus on precision and control for optimal sound quality.

10. Have fun!

Setting up and maintaining your drum set can be a labor of love, but remember to enjoy the process. Experiment with different configurations and techniques, and play with joy and enthusiasm. After all, music should always be fun!
